Knödel and Spätzle are common in Tyrol. Game dishes are tasty. Try venison in autumn and winter. Wiener Schnitzel is probably the most famous dish in Austria. And if you enter one of Viennas Coffee houses, you obviously order coffee. It is nearly as strong as the Italian coffee.

Motorists have to pay a fee on the Brenner route and for the Arlberg tunnel. You need a vignette to use the motorway. The cheapest costs about 13 EUR and is valid for 10 days. Viennas Metro consists of 6 lines. There is a train connecting the airport with the city center.

...think you do not need to buy a motorway vignette. We were about 5 km driving on the motorway around Salzburg and got a fine sent to our home address.

Innsbruck

Its old town is worth visiting. Impressive is the Goldene Dachl, an oriel.

Salzburg

Most impressive is the old town between Salzach and the ridge with a huge castle on its top. It is spotted with churches. Mozart's house and lots of other sightseeing spots can be visited with the Salzburg card which is worth the price. Not to be missed are the trick fountains at Hellbrunn castle. Further highlights are the dome quarters and of course the castle Hohensalzburg. Have a Mass at the Beergarden of the brewery Mülln. Good eateries are "Zum Fidelen Affen" and "Zum Eulenspiegel".

Vienna

Stephansdom, the Ringstrasse with imposing public and private buildings, town hall, Parliament, Staatsoper and the imperial Schönbrunn's grounds demonstrate Viennas power at the time. Visit the funfair Prater and have a ride on the famous big wheel. Have a Wiener Café in one of its coffee houses or a Wiener Schnitzel at Figlmüller's.

Tyrol

An alpine region with the river inn running through its main valley.

A skiresort providing demanding slopes and good après ski facilities. Many English speaking tourists visit the place. In summer there are affordable accommodation offers.

Another skiresort even more famous for its skiing facilities and night life than any other place.

Vorarlberg

Another alpine region close to Switzerland and the Lake Constance.

The place at Lake Constance famous for its stage at the lake where the yearly Bregenz Opera Festival takes place.
